ONE TINLEY PARK
Nancy O'Connor
Running For Clerk of Tinley Park, IL
Nancy O’Connor is proud to serve as Tinley Park’s current Village Clerk and is seeking re-election for a second term in April 2025 as part of the One Tinley Park team. A dedicated volunteer and outspoken community advocate, Nancy brings over a decade of passionate service to Tinley Park, working tirelessly to improve safety, transparency, and services for all residents.
Nancy has been a vocal public safety activist, focusing significant efforts on addressing the hazards posed by the abandoned Tinley Park Mental Health Center (TPMHC). Since 2016, she has led efforts to raise awareness about the site’s deteriorating condition, speaking at public meetings, collaborating with media outlets, and filing a formal complaint with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Her advocacy prompted the Illinois EPA to investigate the site, a cause she continues to champion as Village Clerk.
During the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Nancy co-founded the Tinley Park Citizen Volunteer Committee in partnership with the Village’s Emergency Management Agency. Under her leadership, the committee mobilized volunteers to assist over 10,000 senior citizens with grocery shopping, prescription pick-ups, and wellness checks, providing vital support during a challenging time. Nancy is a proactive advocate for Tinley Park’s seniors and remains committed to addressing their needs.
Nancy’s leadership extends to the athletic and educational fields. Over 35 years, she coached and played volleyball, including starting the boys' volleyball program at Mt. Carmel High School in Chicago in 1993, where she became the school’s first female head coach. Nancy also served as an IHSA volleyball referee for 10 years after retiring from coaching.
As a retired small business owner, Nancy understands the challenges and rewards of running a business in the community. She and her husband Lou have lived in Tinley Park for 12 years, raising two daughters and cherishing time with their eight grandchildren. Nancy is a proud spectator, fan, and photographer of their many activities and sporting events.
As Village Clerk, Nancy remains dedicated to maintaining the 130-year tradition of the Clerk’s Office by providing excellent resident services, streamlining processes, and embracing innovative solutions. She has completed numerous professional education seminars, including those on ethics, public records management, and FOIA/OMA compliance, to ensure top-tier service to the Village.
Nancy’s ongoing priorities include:
-
Improving Transparency: Enhancing accessibility to public documents and ensuring government accountability.
-
Investing in Technology: Leveraging tools to provide residents with easy access to Village records while reducing costs.
-
Safeguarding Records: Ensuring the security of critical Village documents to protect residents and businesses.
-
Reducing Taxpayer Costs: Streamlining operations to deliver value for Tinley Park residents.
Nancy’s deep commitment to her family, community, and integrity drives her work as Village Clerk. She looks forward to continuing her service to ensure Tinley Park’s stability, prosperity, and exceptional quality of life.
